Ninety Years Young ! Truro's Anne "Oma" Hennessey celebrates a life

By Ava Jane, your roving reporter

Dateline -TRURO.

Parkland Estates on Young Street in Truro Nova Scotia was the scene for Anne Hennessey's 90th birthday celebration attended by a large number of family, well wishers and other Parkland neighbours.

Among the food servers were her great grandson Ryan and his ,em, older and wiser sister.

Anne was very proud of the professional way they conducted themselves.

Ninety year old Anne "Oma" Hennessey , nee PicKeur.

Anne, better known as  the famous cookie nanny, was born and raised in Belgium, land of lace and - most importantly "chocolate", mussels, french fries ------ and beer.

Anna was born with a lot of names. Her sisters tended to call her Gusta but her first name of many was actually Louisa Anna  ---- but that all changed one day in 1945.

Because ,during the war, she met and married the late Joe "Da" Hennessey, originally from PEI.

Joe was a a military policemen in the Canadian Army when it liberated Ann's homeland from the Nazis.

Joe preferred to call her Anne - and she let him !

Anne, now a new "war bride" settled in rural PEI, which she found a little basic after growing up in a big city in Europe.

Joe found work in insurance, The Co-operators, and the son Frank was born.

But soon she and Joe moved to Truro , when Joe got transferred.

Frank grew up and also worked in insurance and in time he and Barb had three children : Steve, Kim and Mike ---- my papa !

Chocolate chip cookies

Oma is famous for her baking - her cookies - her CHOC-O-LATE chip cookies above all !!

They are always "chocka" full of chocolate.

Oma always likes to tell people that her younger sister Rosa - back home in Belguim, always said "that I was more stubborn than my mother ----- and she lived till she was 97 !"

She chuckles after she says that .

She is a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grand mother - and if I can be permitted, as a serious professional reporter, to get personal for a moment, "I love her !"
